Abstract
The aim of this paper is to highlight the significance of the contributions of two pioneering women architects: Ruth Rivera Marín in Mexico and Matilde Ucelay Maórtua in Spain. It reflects on their work and influence on architecture in their respective countries, both being among the first women to graduate in the discipline. Through a dialogue between Mexico and Spain, the article describes the historical contexts of architectural education at the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería y Arquitectura in Mexico and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid in Spain. It then develops a comparative analysis of Rivera and Ucelay, considering their institutional and professional contexts as well as the social and architectural impact of their projects. The study concludes that disseminating the contributions of these architects is important for the conservation of twentieth-century cultural heritage, since both innovated through representative works and architectural dissemination, and above all opened paths for other women entering the profession, becoming essential references for new generations of Mexican and Spanish women architects.
